The Olof Palme International Center and the Center of Modern Skills organized and hosted the 5th Forum “Through dialogue to cooperation – Forum of political parties and trade unions” focusing on a just transition. The Forum was held on 1 December 2021 through ZOOM platform and was participated by a number journalists, representatives of trade unions, political parties and civil society organizations.
Dusan Jovic from E3 International presented the SLLEI/SLLES activities in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina and spoke how this project is connected with and how it can facilitate the process of just transition.
Acknowledging that the social aspect of the transition towards a low-carbon economy is crucial, Dusan Jovic shared seven “musts” for a just (energy) transition:
- actively encourage decarbonization
- avoid the creation of carbon lock-in and more “losers” in these sectors
- Support affected regions
- support workers, their families and wider community affected by closures and downscaling
- clean up environmental damage and ensure that related costs are not transferred from the private to the public sector
- address existing economic and social inequalities
- ensure an inclusive and transparent planning process
